Entertaiment means anything that entertains someone. It may be music, movies, food, dance or a simple game. Entertainment is very subjective, and what one person considers entertainment, another may regard as cruel or lowly. The entertainment industry is huge and covers many different areas, from the individual who chooses a DVD or CD to enjoy at home; to the banquet adapted for two people; to performances designed for thousands. The word is derived from the Latin inter tenere, meaning “to hold inside”; this is related to the Indo-European root ten, which also means “stretch.”
